Free walking groups to help you meet friends and be active
Walking groups are a simple way to stay active, meet others, and enjoy some time outdoors. Whether you’re a fast walker, a slow stroller, walking with a pram, or just looking to move more, there’s a group to suit you.
These walking groups are open to people of all ages and abilities, with options for over 50s, parents with young children, and general interest groups. Walks take place in and around the Merri-bek area, and all groups are registered with Heart Foundation Walking—Australia’s largest free walking network.
Each group is led by a local volunteer who helps keep things organised and welcoming. You don’t need any special gear or experience to take part, just some comfortable shoes and willingness to give it a try.
Our peer-led walking groups can help you to:
- stay active in a relaxed and inclusive setting
- improve your physical and mental health
- feel fitter and stronger
- gain confidence with exercise
- discover different local parks and neighbourhoods
- make and meet friends in your local community.
