Expert help with communication and swallowing problems

Speech pathologists are trained health professionals who support you with communication and/or swallowing. If you or someone you care for is having difficulty speaking clearly, understanding or using language, reading, writing, or swallowing safely, a speech pathologist can help.

Our speech pathologists begin by understanding what’s important – whether that’s expressing yourself, following conversations, eating safely, supporting your child’s development, or helping a loved one recover after illness or surgery. From there, they assess communication or swallowing and create a personalised plan based on your needs and goals.

Speech pathology is not only about speech. It covers how you understand, interact, and connect with the world around you. Therapy may involve tailored exercises, communication tools, education for families or carers, or strategies to support confidence and independence.

We work with people of all ages and life stages. The focus is always on improving your quality of life by strengthening everyday communication and making eating and drinking as safe and comfortable as possible.

Our speech pathologists offer one-on-one consultations to help with things like:

  • speaking clearly and being understood
  • understanding and using spoken or written language
  • speech and language development in children
  • social communication skills
  • voice difficulties e.g. hoarseness, vocal strain
  • stuttering and fluency concerns
  • reading, writing, spelling and literacy
  • using alternative communication methods or devices
  • swallowing difficulties or changes in eating and drinking
  • communication strategies after stroke, brain injury or illness
  • supporting communication for people with disability
  • education and support for families, carers and support workers.
