Supporting the learning and development of kindergarten-aged children.

The School Readiness Program helps promote the development and learning of children attending kindergartens in Victoria. The School Readiness Funding (SRF) team of allied health professionals work with educators and families to build their capability to support the children in their care. 

The SRF team support kindergarten educators to build their skills and knowledge through onsite visits, coaching, modelling, group training resource development and more. Further information about the school readiness program can be found on the Victorian government website.

The School Readiness Program focuses on three key areas of children’s development:

  • communication (language, literacy and numeracy)
  • wellbeing (social, emotional and executive functioning)
  • access, inclusion and participation.

 The SRF team of allied health professionals includes:

  • Speech pathology – supporting with areas of development such as language, speech, social skills, literacy and fluency.
  • Psychology – supporting with areas such as social and emotional wellbeing, emotional regulation and behaviour.
  • Occupational therapy – supporting with areas such as self-care skills (toileting, dressing, etc), gross and fine motor skills, sensory processing and attention.

Who is this for?

Eligible funded kindergarten programs in the regions listed below. Allied health sessions are allocated through the Department of Education and Training Victoria’s School Readiness Funding. If you are not sure about your session allocation, contact your local Kindergarten Improvement Advisor (KIA).

How much will it cost?

It’s free. This program is funded by the Department of Education and Training Victoria. Eligible kindergartens are given a set allocation of allied health sessions through their School Readiness Funding.

Kindergartens in the:

  • Merri-bek, Banyule, Darebin, Nillumbik and Yarra local government areas.
  • Goulburn region (Mitchell Shire, Moira Shire, Murrindindi Shire, Strathbogie Shire, The City of Greater Shepparton).
  • Ovens Murray region (Alpine Shire, Benalla Rural City, Indigo Shire, Mansfield Shire, Towong Shire, Wangaratta Rural City and Wodonga City).
