Occupational therapy for older people

Occupational therapists help you do the daily activities that are important to you.
Occupational therapy for older people

Making it easier for you to do everyday things

Occupational therapists (OTs) help you do the daily activities that are important to you. This might include getting dressed, preparing meals, moving around in your home, caring for others, or taking part in hobbies and social activities.

Our occupational therapists start by understanding your goals, abilities, and environment. Then we help you find ways to live as independently as possible. For example, we might support you to build your skills, change how you do things, or modify your home so it’s easier to get around.

We offer one-on-one consultations and group programs that can help you:

  • get equipment to support your independence e.g. a wheelchair, shower chair, toilet frame
  • make changes at home so you can live there safely e.g. ramps, grab rails
  • regain your independence after an injury, illness or surgery
  • stay steady on your feet and help prevent falls
  • manage fatigue, energy levels and pain
  • manage memory problems or cognitive changes
  • take part in social, recreational or community activities.
