Like you, your caring role is unique. You might be supporting a friend, relative, current or ex partner, housemate, or someone within your wider community. While caring can bring moments of joy, it’s not always easy, and you may feel overwhelmed, burnt out or like no one understands what you’re going through. If you’re also navigating your own disability, chronic health condition or mental health challenges, things can feel even more complex. |

It’s important to know that you are not alone. Carer Gateway provides free support and services to support your health and wellbeing.
What support is available?
We recognise your caring role is unique, and the support you receive should reflect that. What helps one person may be different for another, which is why our support is tailored to your needs. Through Carer Gateway you can access:

Services are available in-person, online or over the phone, and may be one-off, short-term or ongoing. It’s free, not means tested and there are no citizenship requirements.
I am a carer – what should I do next?
Do you supports someone who has:
- chronic or terminal illness
- disability
- a mental health condition
- age-related frailty.
You may be:
- Coordinating their appointments
- Advocating for them in medical settings
- Organising medications
- Managing life admin
- Providing emotional support
Being a carer doesn’t always mean you’re looking after someone you live with, are in a relationship with, or even someone you’re very close with. The type of support you provide can vary and change over time.
If any of the above sounds familiar, you may be a carer and eligible for free support.
You do not need a referral to use this service.

Most services are free. A contribution to the cost of respite may be needed. This will be discussed with the carer before the services start.
