We’re delighted to receive $554,140 over two years to help young people access legal support earlier through our new Collaborative School Lawyer program.
The funding, awarded through the Victorian Legal Services Board’s Change Grants, will help bring legal support into partner schools and community settings, making it easier for young people and their families to get help when they need it.
Making support easier to access
Young people can face challenges with housing, family life, school or social connections. When legal issues arise alongside these challenges, it can be hard to know where to turn.
Our Collaborative School Lawyer program will bring a lawyer and a community engagement worker together to build relationships with young people, identify legal issues early and connect them and their families with the right support.
By meeting young people in familiar settings, the program aims to make support easier to access, help prevent problems from escalating and strengthen connections with school and community.
The program planned to launch at the start of the next school year.
We thank the Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner for supporting this initiative and helping more young people and families access legal support.
