From harm to healing: Richard & Sunenna’s stories

Gambling harms everyone – it can impact families, relationships, finances, and health. But with the right support, recovery and hope are possible. Our experienced, caring team can help you take back control.

Recently, two of our ReSPIN speakers Richard and Sunenna, shared their powerful personal stories of gambling harm and how seeking help changed their lives.

Richard spoke about how gambling tore his family apart and affected every part of his life:

“Gambling doesn’t define you and there is always a way out. Seek help.” – Richard

For Sunenna, her husband’s gambling spiralled out of control, leading to domestic violence, emotional stress, and financial hardship. She found counselling to be life-changing:

“Counselling helped me a lot. I feel so light, everything is out of my system.” – Sunenna

Their stories remind us that no one is alone in this. Support is available – free, confidential, and without judgement.

The moment someone answers the phone, your journey of healing, your journey of restoration will start. Just lay it all down, be yourself and just talk.” Richard.

The ReSPIN program helps reduce stigmas around gambling and encourages people to seek support through trained volunteers sharing their personal stories of gambling harm and recovery.
