The Peer Connection Program is delivered by volunteers who have had a personal experience of gambling harm and recovery.
Being a Peer Connection volunteer has multiple benefits:
- use your personal lived experience of gambling harm to help others
- enhance your own wellbeing and the wellbeing of the people you support
- learn new skills
- become part of a supportive volunteer team.
To become a Peer Connection volunteer you:
- have successfully recovered from a gambling problem or have dealt with the impacts of someone else’s gambling
- have excellent listening and communication skills
- are non-judgemental and able to empathise with others
- are able to work a weekly or fortnightly shift (about 3 hours – day or evening).
- can commit for a minimum of one year
- can complete the free Peer Connection training
- volunteers must obtain a police check.
