Today we celebrate IDAHOBIT, International Day Against LGBTIQA+ Discrimination.
‘No one left behind: Equality, freedom and justice for all ‘ is this year’s theme, and we proudly hosted 100+ people to stand up against LGBITQA+ discrimination at a special IDAHOBIT panel event with Merri-bek council last night.
Rainbow health and LGBTIQA+ advocates Nevo Zisin, Budi Sudarto and Danielle Laidley shared their lived experiences in an insightful, dynamic, humorous and sometimes emotional discussion, which bought LGBTIQA+ community members and allies together.
Merri Health CEO Tassia Michaleas spoke about the importance of inclusive health services and higher than average mental health challenges faced by LGBTIQA+ community members.
IDAHOBIT, 17 May commemorates the anniversary the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases in 1990. Only 33 years ago!
