We recently said thank you and farewell to Connor Evans from the West Heidelberg Community Legal team.
Connor has been volunteering weekly with us as a Paralegal through the West Heidelberg Community Legal Volunteer Law Clerk (VLC) Program, while completing his law degree at Melbourne University.
The VLC program provides students with valuable hands-on experience supporting vulnerable people and working within the community legal sector.
Reflecting on his time with the team, Connor shared:
“I just wanted to share how grateful I am for the experience I’ve had. It has been a privilege to come in each week and work with such a passionate, hard-working and dedicated team. The community legal sector truly is at the frontline, and the work being done here every day is remarkable. Whether it’s client-facing or behind the scenes, everybody is making a real difference in keeping justice accessible to the most vulnerable.
As an entry point into legal work, I have learnt so much by way of hard and soft skills. The trust shown to volunteers here is empowering and confidence-building, especially in the backdrop of an extremely busy service. Thank you to everyone for your support and mentoring, particularly Tom, Leanne and Katie, and for providing feedback and learning opportunities along the way.”
As Connor looks ahead to graduating in July, he hopes to stay connected with the sector through ongoing pro bono work.
