What to expect when you contact Carer Gateway

What to expect when you contact Carer Gateway

When you call Carer Gateway, your local service provider will listen to your individual caring situation to understand your needs, and tailor support so that it’s right for you.

After your first phone call with Carer Gateway, during which your details will be collected, a Carer Support Planner from your local service provider will contact you for a second call. During this call, they’ll use the “Carers Star” tool to map your needs, identify your priorities, and connect you with services that can help. They’ll guide you through the process step by step. Together, you’ll discuss:

  1. Your health: Staying physically and mentally well.
  2. Your caring role: Skills, support, and options for managing day-to-day.
  3. Managing at home: Shopping, cooking, cleaning, and hygiene.
  4. Time for yourself: Breaks and self-care.
  5. Your feelings: Emotional well-being and handling stress.
  6. Finances: Financial impacts of caring.
  7. Work or education: Returning to work, training, or study opportunities.
