Carer Industry Forum 26 brought the industry together to celebrate what collaboration has achieved for carers, and to ask what comes next.
Today, one year on from our inaugural Carer Industry Forum, more than 220 senior leaders came together at Forum 26 to share knowledge and ideas, and to consider what might be possible if we worked together for carers.
Why it matters
The relationships formed, the collective leadership that emerged and the collaboration that followed all point to one thing: when organisations stop working in isolation, carers benefit.
- For carers: They are placed at the centre of decisions, with better recognition, planning and support built around their real lives.
- For organisations and stakeholders: Shared knowledge means less duplication, stronger outcomes and a clearer path to retaining skilled, experienced people.
“We always put our carers at the centre of what we do” – Tassia Michaleas, CEO of Holstep Health
Carers are already part of every organisation
One message ran through the day: carers are already in your workforce. They are leaders, managers and colleagues, and they bring resilience, capability and lived experience. That value shouldn’t be lost simply because someone has caring responsibilities.
Organisations that recognise, plan for and retain their carers build stronger, more loyal and more capable teams.
One of the most powerful moments of the day came from Bec and Jan Daniher, who shared their story of caring for the great Neale Daniher. It was a reminder of the extraordinary role a carer can play in supporting someone to pursue their dreams and build a legacy that will help many others living with Motor Neurone Disease.
Where to from here?
Forum 25 was the invitation. Forum 26 showed what can happen when an industry says yes.
