This week is National Carers Week, a time to recognise and honour Australia’s 3 million unpaid carers.
The 2026 theme is “Care for a carer: Making carers visible.” It aims to highlight the invaluable contributions of unpaid carers and encourages all Australians to recognise the carers in their life.
Not sure who a carer is? A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member, friend, or loved one living with:
- Behinderung
- ein medizinischer Zustand
- Herausforderungen für die psychische Gesundheit
- Alkohol- oder Drogenabhängigkeit
- altersbedingte Gebrechlichkeit.
With 3 million carers currently in Australia, chances are you know someone who is one, or are a carer yourself. While caring for someone can feel overwhelming at times, it’s important to remember that you are not alone.
To kick off National Carers Week, our Carer Gateway team was proud to welcome more than 1000 carers to our annual Carer Gateway Family Day on 10 October. It was a wonderful opportunity for carers to take some time with their loved ones, enjoy some lively food and entertainment and connect with other carers. A big thank you to everyone who joined us!
Carer Gateway provides free support and services to improve the wellbeing of carers. Vist our Carer Support page to learn more.
